The Drama of the Climate Crisis webinar

On Thursday 9 June 2022, ETC hosted a high-level webinar on arts and sustainability as part of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Festival. Sustainability experts from ETC's Green Theatre Committee discuss the creation of a new, comparable assessment tool to reduce the carbon footprint of the theatre sector.

Under the title "The Drama of the Climate Crisis - New Narratives and Tools for the Future", sustainability experts from ETC's Green Theatre Committee  set out the principles and common standards across Europe that guide guidance for the cultural sector, with a focus on the Green Book for Theatre and an update on the development of ETC's Sustainable Code of Practice for theatres.

The discussion looks at practical action already being taken across Europe - including the CO2 calculator used by the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, and the "GRÜNE THEATER" concept at the Schauspielhaus Graz - before delving into the ETC's Green Toolkit, a new resource for all theatres to take key steps and "easy wins" for sustainability.

The event concludes with a discussion on how best to measure progress on sustainable action and achieve the overall goal of a climate-neutral theatre sector.
